I'm writing to ask you to support long-term services and supports (LTSS).
Right now when seniors become disabled they must spend down their life savings to poverty in order to qualify for Medicaid long-term services and supports. This puts an enormous emotional and financial burden on Washingtonians and the state budget. With the age wave upon us, the state will see a doubling in the demand for LTSS services over the coming decades.
Senate Bill 5258 called on the Department of Social and Human Services to study policy reforms that would help seniors prepare for future LTSS expenses. This bill had broad bipartisan support but failed to be called to a floor vote before cutoff.
